Using 36GB Hard Disk Drive to Replace 4GB, 9GB and 18GB Hard Disk Drives - HP Netserver and
Proliant |
Certain hard disk drive types have been discontinued due to the end of production at HP's hard disk drive suppliers. HP is using 18GB hard disk drives as repair parts to replace the 4GB and 9GB hard disk drives in almost all applications with the exception of any configurations using the HP Disk Array Controllers (HP Mylex Card Product numbers C3609A and C3610A). The HP Disk Array requires the exact capacity hard disk drive for replacement or a complicated upgrade of the controller (see other support document titled “”) or a complete replacement of the controller with the NetRAID 3Si controller avaiable HERE Related document "Replacing a Low Capacity Drive with a Large Capacity Drive on an Existing Array on an AMI RAID Controllers"

Issue |
Due to the relatively short production life of hard disk drives and the discontinuance of 4GB and 9GB 10K RPM hard disk drives, HP supports the use of the 18GB 10K RPM hard disk drives to replace defective 4GB and 9GB hard disk drives, except for array configurations based on the original HP Disk Array Controllers (HP Mylex DAC Product numbers C3609A and C3610A). Currently the 18GB disks, through current data density technology, are 36GB in capacity, a disk manufactured from a single plater disk. So we now support 36GB hard drives replacing all smaller capacity drives
Any
configurations using the HP Disk Array require the exact capacity hard disk
drive for replacement.
These HP Disk Arrays Controllers were last sold in August 1997.
